Shop and Pay with Crypto at Over 240 Locations in Slovenia

Slovenians can comfortably shop at over 240 online or brick-and-mortar locations in the country and overseas, and then proceed to pay with cryptocurrencies.

This is after a crypto-focused company released a payments app that not only makes it easy for people to spend their crypto holdings on shopping but also allows them to send or transfer these assets to anybody anywhere in the world.

The Elipay app, by blockchain-friendly firm Eligma, offers users a chance to instantly pay for goods via selected digital currencies and makes it even better by displaying the user’s balances and awarding the user loyalty bonus points redeemable in crypto when shopping.

The app provides a navigation tool that helps potential users discover physical shop locations.

At the moment, over 240 locations in Slovenia accept Elipay giving users several places to spend their crypto, with users able to utilize a feature in the app to save names of shops and note details like opening hours.

Available on Android and iOS, users can use the app to pay with native token ELI as well as in bitcoin, ethereum, and bitcoin cash.

The app is currently in use at multiple restaurants, bars, retail shops, and salons, with locals increasingly using crypto to pay for their everyday uses- all without having to resort to fiat.

Apart from the capital Ljubljana, the second city of Maribor has also seen growing use of crypto at places like design studios, coffee shops, and guesthouses.

Elipay’s success also comes on the back of Slovenia’s rising reputation as one of the crypto and blockchain hubs in Europe—with countries like Switzerland, Liechtenstein, and the island nation of Malta.

The “Bitcoin City” has attracted a huge number of crypto and blockchain enthusiasts, making the Slovenian capital one of the most crypto-friendly in the world.

Elipay has said that its ELI token and the increased smartphone usage in the country will only lead to more people moving towards cryptos. And that is what the Eligma team wants to achieve, with taking cryptocurrency payments mainstream a shared vision of the crypto community.

The company will also be integrating credit and debit card payments, and once shoppers earn loyalty rewards in crypto, the hope is that spending it on shopping will serve to bring many more to try the new approach.
